What is a facilitator and what exactly do they do? Succinctly put, a facilitator plans, guides and manages a group event to meet its goals.
Easy enough.
…or is it? What does it truly take to help people work together effectively?
💡Regardless of what objective you have a for a meeting or any group process rather, and irrelevant to the context, whether that be in a global corporation, a rural village, a small #community gathering, a volunteer group, a local meetup, a family outing, a decision with your partner…people want to participate in making decisions that affect their lives.
💡People want their efforts to make a difference within their group and ultimately, in the world.
💡New approaches to leadership are emerging. Changing expectations are morphing hierarchies into circles. Leaders of today and in the future foster authentic leadership and authentic participation.
💡Facilitators use their skills to ensure that every person has an opportunity to hear others and express their ideas. Every person has their own wisdom which makes the mix richer and the group gets the wisest results when everyone’s wisdom is included.
💡The whole is, indeed, greater than the sum of the parts. (I know, super cliché – I cringed as I typed this!) But it’s true!
WHAT IS THE POWER OF FACILITATION AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
💕This labour of love is a collaborative effort of global thought leaders in facilitation. Each chapter looks at the power of facilitation in different aspects of business, community, life and society. It gives real life case examples of how people think together to achieve inspiring, amazing, and impactful results.
As beautifully put by one of the authors Barbara:
💕Facilitation has the power to bring people together to share their knowledge, wisdom and ideas to come up with a solution that will address many perspectives.
💕Facilitation is the only way to do that if we operate in siloed organizations, siloed teams, siloed individuals studying something and then proposing a solution without knowing all the other perspectives and come up with solutions that are completely unsustainable and unhelpful to many groups that are typically left out of the decision making process.
💕Facilitation equalizes the playing field and assures the solutions are sustainable to everyone.
This Friday I am grateful for the generosity of this community in sharing their knowledge so that we can truly harness the Power of Facilitation and begin to access more honest, equitable and effective meetings, communities, organizations, and world.
